Cheese Cave

Information & graphic design

Solution

I designed a series of bi-folds, hand-bound booklets, and a poster, outlining these methods and information.

Each bi-fold focused on a different cheese and had an individual dominant colour, inspired by the shade of its rind. For example, Mahon (below) is a cow’s milk cheese that is rubbed with paprika each week of maturation. This gives it a vibrant red colour, which I translated into the design. The cover of each featured its cheese in a repeating pattern, mirroring the way the cheeses sit in batches on shelves in traditional cheese caves.

The poster was created in a blueprint style, enforcing the idea that the tools you use are the foundations of crafting a cheese, from thermometers to brushes.

Brief

To accompany the mobile cheese cave, I needed engaging information design to communicate the very niche topic of cheese maturation to a new audience.

This had to include:

  • How to use the mobile cheese cave

  • How to document its use for the purpose of communal responsibility

  • How to taste cheese

  • Learn about the cheese producers
